Entire U.S. Relay Team Stripped Of Silver Medals Because Of Tyson Gay

See, Tyson Gay, that’s why we can’t have nice things!

According to USA Today, the entire U.S. men’s sprint relay team will be stripped of its silver medal from the 2012 Olympics after Tyson Gay’s doping case.

CBS News reminds us that in 2013 Gay tested positive for steroids at the U.S. championships and received a reduced suspension for cooperating with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency’s investigation. During that investigation, the USADA determined that Gay’s steroid abuse dated all the way back to July 15, 2012, right before the London Olympics.

As a result, Gay returned his own medal last year after accepting a one year suspension. And while the status of his teammates’ medals had been considered in limbo, the International Olympic Committee exercised an international clause that says an entire team can be disqualified and stripped of medals because of doping by just one member.

The other team members who will lose medals because of Gay include: Trell Kimmons, Justin Gatlin, Ryan Bailey, Jeffrey Demps, and Darvis Patton.

It’s truly a shame and we feel terrible for the rest of the team.
